[UNVERIFIED CONTENT] Nicolaus Copernicus, who lived from 1473 to 1543 was a Renaissance astronomer and the first person to formulate a comprehensive heliocentric cosmology which displaced the Earth from the center of the universe. Copernicus was born in Thorn (now Torun) in Poland and this statue can be found in that city.
