Admiral Nelson brooch - auction

The brooch with diamond set initials "H.N", believed to have belonged to Lord Nelson, that is a part of a collection that has not been seen for almost 200 years. * Now they, and other items of the Admiral's property - including letters, ceremonial swords and two wine coolers - will go under the hammer later this year on Trafalgar Day. The items revealed to the media, were uncovered by Sotheby's expert Martyn Doner last year in a collection of Nelson's property belonging to descendants of Alexander Davison, Nelson's friend and banker. 21/10/02 A collection of rare artefacts associated with Lord Nelson, Britain's greatest naval hero, raised more than 2 million at auction. The artefacts on sale included more than 85 items and also featured an anchor shaped diamond brooch initialled HN and probably presented to Nelson which sold for 160,650. One of the star lots in the sale, a blood-stained silk purse containing 21 gold coins which he was carrying when he was killed during the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805, sold for 270,650 including buyer's premium.
