During the execution process, a lever lowers a cone-shaped valve, dropping cyanide into a mixture of water and acid. Cyanide gas, which appears as a blue mist, emanates from the floor of the gas chamber, and slowly rises. As the inmate inhales the gas, he will experience conditions which are similar to a heart attack. He eventually falls into unconsciousness.
