French cosmetics company L'Occitane has been working with women producing shea butter since the 1980s with the objective of co-development. In 2006, the L'Occitane Foundation chose to build on its partnership with the women of Burkina Faso by focusing its activities on supporting women's entrepreneurship. Through its actions, the Foundation acts on three pillars: it promotes the acquisition of basic skills and knowledge by supporting literacy programs, it provides financial and technical support by microcredit programs and trainings of income-generating activities. Based in French southern town of Manosque, "L'Occitane en Provence" is present in 90 countries, marketed within 2,000 shops around the world and generates more than 90 percent of its sales outside of France.
