The single-celled organism Euplotes is very common and can often be seen running up and down the filamentous algae in a pond. The legs are modified cilia, called cirri, that move the protozoan over the substrate. Euplotes is flattened with ridges running along the dorsal part of the body. This particular animal feeds by drawing a current of water under the cell body into the cytostome (mouth). The equipment used was a Olympus BH2 microscope, an Olympus 60X S-Plan Apochromat objective, X2.5 NFK Photoeyepiece and a Sony EX3 Full HD video camera, with a horizontal field of view of approximately 300 microns, average size range of Euplotes is 70 to 150 micrometres.
