The "Temple of the Sun" at Heliopolis refers to the ancient city of Heliopolis ( Greek for "City of the Sun" ), which was the center of solar worship in ancient Egypt, dedicated to the sun gods Ra and Atum. The original, magnificent temple has no surviving remains, but it served as a model for later sun temples. The site, located in modern-day Ain Shams, Cairo, is known today for the single surviving obelisk of Senusret I, with others moved to places like London and New York.
