EGYPT-PARLIAMENTARY ELECTIONS-JUDGES
Ahmed Saif al-Islam al-Banna, the secretary general of the Egyptian lawyers syndicate, talks to the press during a protest in Cairo 29 November 2005 in support of judges charging that the ongoing legislative elections were rife with fraud. Banna is the grandson of Hassan al-Banna, the founder of Egypt's banned Muslim brotherhood movement, which has also talked about fraud. The Brotherhood said some 20 of its members were rounded up today, following spectacular gains by the Islamist group in the month-long parliamentary elections whose final round kicks off this week. The members who were described as local leaders were rounded up mostly in the Nile Delta region where elections were held last weekend, spokesman Issam al-Aryan said.
