LAKE BOGA, VIC, AUSTRALIA - FEBRUARY 18: An estimated 10,000 dead fish lay scattered across the drained lakebed of Lake Boga February 18, 2008 in Lake Boga, Victoria, Australia. The lake was cut off from the Murray River irrigation system when irrigators' water allocations went to zero. The town, which was solely built on the tourism activities of the lake, was not notified that the lake would drain and now shops and motels have closed down. The Murray-Darling Basin has been plagued with severe drought since the late 1990s and many growers and policy makers are being forced to work on implementing more efficient irrigation systems.
