Argentine social organizations and war v
Argentine social organizations and war veterans gather near the British embassy in Buenos Aires on April 2, 2010 to demonstrate on the 28th anniversary of the 1982 South Atlantic war between Argentina and Britain over the Falkland (Malvinas) Islands. Britain has occupied the islands since 1833 and has said there is nothing to discus regarding sovereignty because the 3,000-odd islanders wish to remain British. Britain successfully reclaimed them following the Argentine military invasion in 1982, but Buenos Aires has never abandoned its ownership claim. Argentina has increased its affirmations of sovereignty over the archipelago after a British firm began drilling for oil in Falklands waters in February.
