No Clean Water in Kyrgyzstan Villages
BISHKEK, KYRGYZSTAN - 2016/10/13: Atyrgul Tagaibekova, 12, received intravenous liquids for care of hepatitis at Zhugushtun Hospital for infectious diseases. The hospital depends on water from an aryk, an irrigation canal and from a small spring. Rates of hepatitis and water borne diseases in the region are high due to the fact that locals depend on water from irrigation canals that are vulnerable to contamination.
In villages across Kyrgyzstan (Central Asia) antiquated water delivery systems and infrastructure is the cause of health issues such as outbreaks of hepatitis and gastrointestinal disease, especially among children. (Photo by Jodi Hilton/SOPA Images/LightRocket via Getty Images)
