Exterior Of The North Carolina Mutual And Provident Association Mutual Block

Beginning on June 1, 1905, the board of directors of the North Carolina Mutual and Provident Associated purchased a lot on West Parrish Street for the erection of a home office. The North Carolina Mutual Block, Parrish Street, referred to as "Black Wall Street" located in downtown Durham, North Carolina. It was an impressive complex that consisted of the offices of the North Carolina Mutual and Provident Association, Bull City Drug Store, the offices of Durham's first black doctor - Dr. Aaron M. Moore, the private office of Prof. William G. Pearson, and the law offices of early black attorney C. F. Rich in the brick two story home office and erected two one -story adjoining the building.
