Greece Is Expanding With Concrete Filled Fence And Police Patrols The Land Borders With Turkey

Border police walking alongside the fortification fence with a watch tower post in the background for police and the military equipped with camera and surveillance gear. Greek border police officers patrol along the steel fence next to Evros river between Greece and Turkey to prevent unauthorized illegal entry of migrants. Greece is reinforcing the Greek side with the Turkish borders with Border Police personnel, cameras, drones, heavy vehicles, FRONTEX officers but also with a 5 meter tall fence. The fence is concrete filled, a construction which is expanding with recent announcements adding 80km more, covering the wetlands of Evros river (Meric in Turkish) and Greece's river border with Turkey. EU supported part of the border fortification financially sparking a controversy about the funding for the new parts. Asylum seekers, migrants and refugees used Evros as an entrance point to Europe, while in March 2020 a huge wave of thousands of people tried to cross the borders.
