Ted Williams Playing Baseball
8/9/1953-Boston, MA-ORIGINAL CAPTION READS: Ted Williams made his Post-War bow in the Boston Red Sox lineup as a ninth inning pinch hitter in today's game with the St.Louis Browns. Batting for teammate Tom Umphlett during a three-run Red Sox rally Williams popped to Brownie first baseman Dick Kryhoski. Brown's catcher is Courtney. A small crowd of 6,100 gave Williams a standing ovation when he came to bat. It was the first time he was officially at bat since his recall to the Marine Air Force 15 months ago.
