George Papadopoulos
(Original Caption) Col. George Papdopoulos , who engineered the April 1967 military takeover of the Greek government, tells official version of the December 13th abortive countercoup of King Constantine at news conference. Papadopoulos emerged as junta strongman following collapse of Constantine's thrust and was sworn in as Prime Minister, replacing the Constantine Kollias who had ben installed by the junta but who flew to Rome with the monarch. The change removed the last civilian from a post of power in the ruling Greek regime.
