In the next few weeks what is perhaps Europe's last Jacquard workshop ends a fine handicraft tradition with it's closure, due to the drop in commands from theatre companies and other major clients. The Jacquard loom is a mechanical loom, invented by Joseph Marie Jacquard in 1801, that simplifies the process of manufacturing textiles with complex patterns. Due to the present economic crisis industrial era techonology has suffered greatly, essentially in traditional activities such as textile manufacturers.
