(Original Caption) St. Louis, Missouri: A disgusted-looking Bob Gibson watches as Atlanta Braves' Dave Johnson heads for first after he walked him to force home the go-ahead run in the eighth inning, July 12, and enable the Braves to defeat the Cards 7-3 in the first game of a double-header. Gibson, trying for the 3,000th strikeout of his major league career, started the game with 2,997 career strikeouts and fanned two Braves to bring his total to 2,999. Gibson's next strikeout will make him the second man in the history of baseball to strike out 3,000, behind Walter Johnson's 3,508.
