(Original Caption) 11/30/1950-Fort Monmouth, NJ: Former New York Yankees pitching ace, Ed "Whitey" Ford, Astoria, NY, points to his new home as a member of Uncle Sam's big team. Ford will take his basic training at Fort Monmouth, after which he'll be assigned to a Signal Corps Organization for the remainder of his thirteen weeks in specialized Signal Corps Training. The 22-year-old hurler found himself 10 pounds above normal pitching weight, but siad "Basic training will take that off in no time."
