Mahatma Gandhi Fasting
(Original Caption) Gandhi Refuses to Abandon Fast. On the fourth day of his fast yesterday street fighting broke out between groups of Gandhi supporters and Hindu and Sikh refugees. There were shouts of "Death to Gandhi" from one side, and from the other "Save Gandhi." Gandhi himself was weak yesterday, but he firmly rejected pleas from princes and politicians, Hindus, Muslim, and Sikhs to abandon the fast. Doctors say that Gandhi cannot live more than ten days, unless he breaks the fast. Photo shows: Mahatma Gandhi at Birla House, New Delhi, just after commencing his fast.
