Indian woman inspects fluorescent light bulbs at an Ajanta plant in Morbi, some 265 km from Ahmedabad, on March 7, 2010. Their Ajanta Group employer counts a workforce of 9,000 where 90 percent are women. On the eve of International Women's Day, United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) Executive Director Ines Alberdi stated "women everywhere, but especially in developing countries, continue to face the enormous challenges of the global financial crisis, widespread food insecurity, natural and man-made disasters and climate change."
