Jacques Plante Wearing Hockey Uniform

(Original Caption) Jacques Plante, Montreal Canadian's star goalie wears a bandage on his bloodied face here after being struck by a shot off the stick of Andy Bathgate of the New York Rangers during their hockey game in New York's Madison Square Garden on November 1st. The accident occurred in the opening period. After receiving medical attention, Plante returned to the ice wearing a special plastic mask that he designed himself. It marked the first time a goalie ever played a regular National Hockey League game with such a protective device. Plante previously had used the mask only in practice games. Montreal own the game 3 to 1.
