Joe DiMaggio in Dugout

(Original Caption) Joe DiMaggio, brightest star of the N.Y. Yankee baseball constellation and sparkplug of the club, is shown in the club dugout today as he donned uniform for the first time since the opening of the American League race. Laid up since spring training with a bad heel, Joe showed up to take a cut at the ball and generally discover how the heel was doing. For this initial practice he wore shoes without heel spikes. That didn't interfere with the air of authority he put behind his batting practice, the competence which makes him a legendary baseball figure.
