Portrait Of Anglo-Irish Novelist, Lawrence Durrell
Lawrence Durrell on a French walkabout. Lawrence Durrell was born in Darjeeling, India in 1912. He was schooled in England but did not find an affinity with the country and spent most of his life outside England - in India, Corfu, Egypt, Yugoslavia, Rhodes, Cyprus and his adopted home of Provence, in the south of France. His best-known work is The Alexandria Quartet (1957-1960), a work said to have re-invented the modern noval. He was also a playwright. Married four times, he died in November 1990.
