Mal Whitfield, member of the 1948 U.S. Olympic Team, proudly holds his trophy after making a new meet record in 600-yard run at the 10th annual Knights of Columbus track meet in Cleveland Arena, March 17. Whitfield's time was 1 minute, 10.8 seconds. Old record, set by Charley Beethan of Ohio State in 1942, was 1 minute, 11.2 seconds.
