6000-year-old mortuary huts found in Saxony-Anhalt
16 May 2024, Saxony-Anhalt, Nauendorf: A skeleton from the Middle Neolithic lies in a field near Nauendorf near Halle. The human was found in a squatting position and lying on his right side. The body is buried in a trapezoidal floor plan of an earlier mortuary structure. Archaeologists from the Saxony-Anhalt State Office for the Preservation of Monuments and Archaeology found two of these 6000-year-old mounded mortuary huts here. The burial mounds belong to the Baalberg culture. Photo: Hendrik Schmidt/dpa (Photo by Hendrik Schmidt/picture alliance via Getty Images)
