Guy Fawkes Night
Nov. 5, 2011 - London, England, UK - An effigy of Guy Fawkes awaits a bonfire on Guy Fawkes night, festivities of bonfires and fireworks in Highgate, London. The day originated in 1605 with the failed gunpowder plot to blow up Parliament and kill King James. Fires were lit that first November 5th with Guy Fawkes effigies to celebrate that the King survived. However the meaning has been much transformed since with effigies made of figures in the public ire to meet the fate of the fire.
