Daily Life In Gaza - June 2022

GAZA CITY, GAZA - JUNE 07: Palestinian fishermen return to the port of Gaza at dawn with the day's catch on June 07, 2022 in Gaza City, Gaza. The Gaza Strip has almost 2 million inhabitants, half of whom are children and adolescents. Every day 20,000 people cross the border between the Strip and Israeli lands thanks to work permits. For lower salaries than their Israeli "colleagues", every evening on their return they pass through three checkpoints; that of Israel, of the Palestinian National Authority and finally that of Hamas (an Islamist Palestinian political and paramilitary organization that has governed the Gaza Strip since 2007). Working conditions inside Gaza are extremely precarious; the 60,000 people employed in agricultural work are increasingly in difficulty due to polluted water, 90% of the water is contaminated, salty or undrinkable. 50,000 people survive thanks to the fishing economy, but the Israeli authorities force boats not to exceed 3 nautical miles (4.8km), otherwise the fishing boats are attacked by drones or patrol boats. Many Gazawi fishermen have had their boats seized and are sometimes arrested or killed at sea. (Photo by Alessandro Levati/Getty Images)
