Nun with Her Blind Students Riding Roller Coaster Ride

(Original Caption) Rockaway Beach, New York: Not Blind To Joy; With her habit whipped back by the breeze a nun accompanies her charges from the Lavelle School for the Blind (E.221st St. and Paulding Ave., Bronx), on a joyful, frightening, wonderful ride on the roller coaster at Rockaway's Playland amusement park. The youngsters were treated to a full day of thrills, cotton candy, ice cream, hot dogs and a chicken dinner by Playland President Joseph Geist. The seventy blind boys and girls, ranging in age form four to 16, experienced all of the fun enjoyed by more fortunate children. In a moment such as this one, however, they were just the same as any youngster for as anyone who has ridden an "Atom Smasher" knows, most eyes are clamped shut when the bottom seems to drop away and your stomach tries to leap out of your mouth.
