It preceded a train bearing King Paul of Greece and Gen. James Van Fleet of the U.S. on an inspection tour of Greek forces. The royal train came to a stop less than 100 yards behind the wreckage. It was the second escape in three weeks for Van Fleet, head of the American Military Mission in Greece.
