Claes Oldenburg In 'Ray Gun Specs'
Swedish-born American Pop artist Claes Oldenburg appears in a scene from 'Snapshots from the Street,' a portion of a larger performance art piece entitled 'Ray Gun Specs' at the Judson Gallery, New York, New York, March 1, 1960. 'Ray Gun Specs' (also known as 'Ray Gun Spex') ran from February 29 to March 2 and was a collaborative 'happening' created by Oldenburg, Jim Dine, and others, and featured performances, painting, sculpture, and even an auction for the audience. The performances were a precursor to Oldenburg's own 'Ray Gun Theater' shows in 1962. (Photo by Fred W. McDarrah/MUUS Collection via Getty Images)
