4th January 1947: Theatre costume designer Gladys Calthrop inspects one of her creations, worn by American actress Mary Martin (1914 - 1990). The dress has been designed for the new musical 'Pacific 1860', written by English playwright Noel Coward (1899 - 1973, left) for the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane. The headline beneath reads 'War Heroes in the Peace'.
