YANQING, CHINA: This photo taken 16 May, 2007 shows a farmer spraying pesticide on a crop of vegetables for the export market in Yanqing, northwest of Beijing. Cancer, already the number one killer in China, is on rise with worsening pollution and the increasing use of chemicals in foods to blame, state press said 21 May 2007, with the excessive use of fertilisers and pesticides adding to the pollution of underground water as farmers use additives on pigs, poultry and vegetables to make them grow faster. While Chinese cuisine may enjoy an international reputation, a series of health scares has dulled the appetite overseas for the country's booming food exports. AFP PHOTO/ Frederic J.
