View of the main building of the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum in Weston, West Virginia on August 24, 2013. Later called the Armand Auclerc Weston State Hospital, the psychiatric hospital was operated from 1864 until 1994 by the US government. It was designed in the Gothic Revival and Tudor Revival styles by Richard Snowden Andrews. Originally designed to hold 200 patients, numbers swelled to over 2,000 in the 1950s. It was forcibly closed in 1994 due to changes in treatments of patients The now privately owned building complex is open for tours and other money raising events, proceeds of which go to the restoration and preservation of the historic landmark.
