Afghan Refugees Who Fled Years Ago Are Concerned For Relatives In Afghanistan

JAKARTA, INDONESIA - AUGUST 27: Zewar, an Afghan refugee from Bamiyan sits in her tent across from the UNHCR office on August 27, 2021 in Jakarta, Indonesia. Thousands of Afghans, primarily of Hazara ethnicity have fled to Indonesia in the past 10 years. Pushed out by Taliban threats and in some cases the assassination of family members, they hoped to be resettled in Australia or other countries. Many are still waiting after 7-8 years and now after the bomb attacks and mayhem accompanying the Taliban's return to power, they are worried for their relatives and friends back in Afghanistan. Those who have been able to contact relatives say that they are very worried that the Taliban will bring back their old rules which made life nearly impossible for many Hazaras (Photo by Ed Wray/Getty Images)
