The original Royal Exchange was founded in the 16th century as a commercial centre for the City but the current building is the third, and was opened by Queen Victoria in 1844. It now contains high-end restaurants, eateries and bars as well as luxury shops. The City of London proclamation of the new monarch, King Charles III, took place at the Royal Exchange on 10th September 2022, following long tradition.
