Old VOC sailing ship Halve Maen at the river IJssel during the 2018 Sail Kampen event - stock photo
Old VOC sailing ship Halve Maen at the river IJssel during the 2018 Sail Kampen event in the Hanseatic league city of Kampen in Overijssel, The Netherlands. The Halve Maen was a trading ship of the Dutch East India Company (Dutch: Verenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie or VOC) and sailed into what is now New York Harbor in September 1609 during a search for a western passage to China. People on board are looking at the view and a crownd on the quay is watching the ships.
