More than fifty thousand people standing at the "Piazza di Campo" at Siena city, Italy, during the "Palio di Siena" known locally as "Il Palio", a traditional horse race held twice a year in July and August since 1656. Ten horses representing ten of the seventeen districts ("Contradas") with jockeys riding bareback compete during a three-lap race around a makeshift course built in the the city's central square.
