1990 - Persian Gulf War - Operation Desert Shield
Combat Camera logo. Credits for Combat Camera. Interview with Colonel Al Whitley, Commander of the 37th Tactical Fighter Wing. He begins by talking about his deployment to Saudi Arabia for Operation Desert Shield and the purpose of his mission. He is asked, by an adult male, off camera, about the maintenance required for the aircraft he pilots. He begins by stating that Operation Desert Shield is the first time his Command has been deployed overseas, so that presents multiple unknowns. There are standards that must be met, and this environment creates challenges to those standards. Prior to deployment, they were schedule to be deployed overseas, but not to this part of the world. This created a challenge, but the results have "been spectacular", exceeding the standards that were set, both from a maintenance and supply perspective.
