David Cameron interview on ageing UK population and Iraq

David Cameron interview on ageing UK population and Iraq; ENGLAND: London: INT David Cameron MP (Leader, Conservative Party) interview SOT - Today, 1 in 6 people in our country is over 65, in thirty years time it will be 1 in 4, the baby boomer generation is about to retire and we have to change our attitude towards older people in this country, the government, business, NHS, local governent / We should see this as a benefit and not a cost, for too long in British politics we've tried to paint older people out of the picture and seen aging as a costing process, but actually older people contribute massively into our economy and could contribute more if business employed them more / It's a wide ranging speech, looking at the opportunities of an older, maturer society, rather than the costs - [Asked if Tony Blair's Cool Britannia was wrong] What was certainly wrong was his description of Britain as a young country was factually and historically inaccurate and helped this process of painting older people out of the painting / Britain is a country with a proud past and a great future and I think older people look at their own lives in the same way - [Asked about the government implementing the Age Discrimination Act] They've done a huge amount of damage in terms of old people as well, particularly in terms of pensions, Gordon Brown taking 5 billion pounds a year out of the pension system has turned one of the strongest pension systems in Europe into one of the weakest / We should link pensions with earnings rather than prices, examine how we look after and help carers but there's also a lot of lessons for businesses about employing elderly people, changing the health service and social services and local government / I'm talking about social responsibility
