Uganda's child soldiers

UNICEF estimates that some 300,000 boys and girls under the age of 18 are involved in more than 30 conflicts worldwide, either as combatants, messengers, porters, cooks or even as forced sexual slaves. UNICEF is holding a two-day conference in Paris on child soldiers. In Uganda, children were forcibly enrolled to fight with the Lord's Resistance Army, a rebel movement famous for its violence and barbarity. Since the late 1980s, tens of thousands of children have been abducted to serve as porters, fighters and sex slaves. Today, the fighting is over as the rebels and the government are holding peace talks. Some of the former child soldiers have managed to escape and are now rehabilitated. But others are still in the hands of the rebels. A voiced report. (Footage by AFPTV via Getty Images)
