NYC Mayor Adams Calls For Federal Support To Help With Migrant Crisis

NEW YORK, NEW YORK – JANUARY 22: Faith Advisor, Office of the Mayor Pastor Gilford Monrose commences with a prayer referencing the recent mass shooting in Monterey Park, California, as NYC Mayor Eric Adams rallies at City Hall calling on Congress and FEMA for help with the influx of asylum seekers on January 22, 2023 in New York City. Mayor Adams is asking for more federal aid as NYC receives migrants and as his administration struggles to shelter/house them. The migrant crisis has strained the city’s shelters and other resources. Mayor Adams prepares for the potential ending of Title 42 that would allow asylum seekers that have been waiting in Mexico to seek asylum at the U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s ports of entry, further draining city resources. The mayor calls the migrant crisis a “Humanitarian crisis” that is a “National Problem” and calls for immigration reform legislation. Congress recently approved 800 million dollars for the growing influx of migrants arriving to the United States but only a portion will be directed toward cities like New York struggling to provide for asylum seekers.
