Views from Damascus's sieged suburban of East Ghouta

DAMASCUS, SYRIA - APRIL 18: Footage from the streets of Syrian capital Damascus's East Ghouta suburban which is under the siege of Syrian regime forces as well as armed groups loyal to Syrian regime for 4 years on April 18, 2017. Residents say that prices have already reached beyond the reach of population in the sieged suburban due to increasing air-raids of Syrian regime forces. According to residents food prices have pushed up by 3 times and diesel fuel prices have increased 8 fold in the last 1.5 months. Goods brought through secret tunnels in Kaban quarter as well as sold by traders living in relatively calm areas who have agreements with Syrian regime are the only means of getting food and fuel for the residents of this suburban with a population half million. Galib Muhhamad who is a greengrocer says that people tend to buy cheaper green vegetables like lettuce due to sharp increase in vegetable prices. Sameer al-Shami a resident from Sakba district laments that he earns 15,000 SYP (around 27 US dollar) and that money maintain livelihood of his family of four for only 4 days or 5 days tops if they eat only vegetables. Abdulhamid Mustafa who sells diesel fuel tells that there's almost no motorized vehicle in streets and people prefer either carriages or pushcarts due to sharp increase in diesel fuel prices.
