Steny Hoyer identifies precedents for election year Supreme Court confirmation

House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer of Maryland says Justice Anthony Kennedy was confirmed in the final years of President Ronald Reagan second term, one of 14 justices in history confirmed during an election year, including Lewis Brandeis and Benjamin Cardozo, concluding there was hardly precedent for leaving a seat unfilled for months, a timeframe for seats in the House of Representatives and the Senate so the American people were represented, so to politicize the process was irresponsible and jeopardizes the Supreme Court proper functioning.
