Malmesbury Mosque Attack, Cape Town, South Africa

In the small town of Malmesbury, outside of Cape Town, a Somali man was shot by police after stabbing and fatally wounding two men at a Mosque. Ismail Bassa, 74, and a Somali national Sayaad Hitig, were killed while worshipping at the mosque for Itikaaf - a religious practice where men live and pray at the mosque for the last 10 days of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan. The man asked to spend the night at the mosque and at about 3am started attacking people at the mosque. He was then pursued by police and was shot on a nearby field. Ebrahim Rasool, the provincial head of elections of the ANC, as well as Faiez Jacob's, came to support the community and families involved, as well as bring a personal message of support from President Cyril Ramaphosa.
