Protesters take over Kirkwood, and block it, during a march during protests and marches at the beginning of the Occupy Wallstreet Movement in 2011

Occupy Wall Street protesters march on Kirkwood Avenue in Bloomington, Indiana at the beginning of a protest that would last until January when police evicted the protesters from Peoples Park in the middle of the city, October 9, 2011. Protesters would set up a makeshift camp and not leave the camp until forced to do so by the police. The protests were in part a reaction to the growing economic divide between the one percent who own most of America, and the 99 percent of the rest of the country's population. Protesters also blamed the banks for the great recession, and the economic hardships faced by many Americans after 2008's economic meltdown - the worst American financial crisis since the Great Depression of the 1930s.
