NEW YORK, NY –MAY 30, 2018: On May 23rd 2018 twenty year old Guatemalan woman Claudia Patricia Gómez González was shot and killed by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in Texas #ClaudiaGonzales. Claudia had traveled for nearly three weeks from indigenous community in San Juan Ostuncalco, Guatemala hoping to find work and a better life in the United States. On May 30 activist, supporters, and elected officials (City Council members Francisco Moya, Carlos Menchaca and Jumaane Williams) rallied at Foley Square in downtown Manhattan to remember Claudia González and the death of Roxsana Hernandez a 33-year-old transgender woman from Honduras who died at an ICE detention center.
