Eugene Gold discusses a Mafia connection to the ring and the degree of sophistication in the ring's tactics. According to Attorney Gold's statements, the ring was headed by a 40 year old Brooklyn man described as a Mafia member. Mr. Gold also states that there are other Mafia members among the suspects. Mr. Gold discloses that a car with a market price of $6,000 to $7,000 wold be sold illegally for $3,000. Attorney Gold goes on to discuss the police tactics used to nab the interstate ring which operated in 10 states. The Brooklyn prosecutor states that probationary policeman on his staff joined the gang under the alias of"Blackie." He worked with them for three months and during that period made it possible for the District Attorney's office to purchase 11 stolen cars. Shots are seen of the tools used by the thieves paraphernalia such as forged registration papers; plates with false serial numbers; and photographs showing stolen cars being transferred to purchasers.
