Global group of Muslims follow in Prophet Muhammad’s footsteps from Mecca to Medina

MECCA, SAUDI ARABIA - NOV. 2, 2025: Seeking to follow the path taken by Prophet Muhammad and his companions during the Hijra in 622, a group of 15 Muslims from different countries have embarked on an eight-day journey from Mecca to Medina. The group, brought together by the UK-based organization “Hijrah Hub,” first visited sacred sites in Mecca before beginning their desert trek, aiming to trace the migration of Prophet Muhammad that marks a turning point in Islamic history. They also visited the Cave of Thawr on Mount Thawr, where Prophet Muhammad and his companion Abu Bakr hid for three days from the Meccan polytheists who sought to kill him during the migration.Dr. Mohammed Sattar, who climbed Mount Thawr, said, "We've just come out of the cave and right now I feel very overwhelmed in a deep sense of reflection. Thinking about the sacrifices that our Prophet and his companions made for us to be able to practice our religion and the difficulties that they went through."Waseem Mahmood, one of the founders of the organization, said that they are going to see many landmarks and locations that are directly connected to where the Prophet walked, ate, slept, visited and saw, and added:"Insha'Allah we'll bring our hearts alive because they witnessed our Prophet and it's a huge blessing."Fifteen participants from countries including the UK, Scotland, Kosovo, Türkiye, and Saudi Arabia will pass through key points visited by the Prophet and his companions, walking approximately 315 kilometers along the Hijra route.(Footage by Ibrahim Aktas /Anadolu Agency via Getty Images)
