Thousands of Pro-Palestinian protesters rally in Hamilton, Canada

HAMILTON, CANADA - MAY 16: Several thousand Pro-Palestinian demonstrators rallied in Hamilton, Canada on Sunday afternoon (May 16). Some protesters took to the streets in their vehicles calling for an end to Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip. Carrying Palestinian flags, many protesters wore keffiyeh scarves, while drivers sounded car horns. After vehicle rally the protesters marched through the streets to the city hall, chanting “Palestine will be free”, “Viva, viva INTIFADA”. A massive protest was held in Nathan Philips Square in the city on Saturday, drawing thousands of people. The anti-Israel demonstrations that started on Friday in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, continued on Saturday and Sunday with 20 separate protests in the provinces of Ontario, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, British Columbia, Quebec, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick. The death toll from Israeli attacks on Gaza Strip on Sunday rose to 197, including 58 children and 34 women, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry. The number of injured has reached 1,235, while tens of buildings were destroyed or damaged. The recent tensions that started in East Jerusalem in the Muslim holy month of Ramadan spread to Gaza after Palestinian resistance groups there vowed to retaliate against Israeli assaults on the Al-Aqsa Mosque and Sheikh Jarrah if they were not halted. Israel occupied East Jerusalem, where Al-Aqsa is located, during the 1967 Arab-Israeli war. It annexed the entire city in 1980 in a move never recognized by the international community.
