Max Landis on His Interpretation of "Mr. Right"

Max Landis: The joke of the movie if you haven’t seen it yet is that it is a 1950’s, 1940’s Gene Kelly musical comedy wherein all of the dance and song numbers have been replaced with fight scenes, and I thought that’s a fun archetype for the movie. Sam Rockwell: You’re right, that’s kind of what it is, yeah. Max Landis: The bad guy is just the other man who takes her away and so it certainly looks like that but in the script I wrote that every time he fights, he’s so good at it, and he’s such a happy-go-lucky guy that it’s like, “Fuck this, I’m just gonna la-la-la.” like dancing through it. And when I actually saw what you guys created, watching it, cuz when you write you’re just behind a computer and you go, “And then he dance-kills 50 people.” Paco Cabezas: I know, I remember reading that and thinking, “You motherfucker, how do you do this?!”
